SEEKING GRADUATE/TEACHING ASSISTANT IN ORGANIC CHEMISTRY

Start date Fall 2020 or Spring 2021

JOB DESCRIPTION

One position, either a Master's or PhD level, in organic (medicinal) chemistry is available in the Teske lab at Western Michigan University. The start is Fall 2020. The Teske lab makes small molecule inhibitors of microRNA function as potential anti-cancer therapeutics.  Full funding is provided for 2.5 (Master's) or 5  (PhD) academic years through a teaching assistantship and at least one summer through a graduate research assistantship; tuition costs are included. Attendance to 1-2 professional conferences or workshops will also be supported. Applications will be considered until Feb 15, 2020, but you are encouraged to contact Dr. Teske before then to express your interest.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry

  • Prior research experience (not specifically organic)

  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently

  • Excellent communication scientific writing, and teamwork skills

  • Ability to mentor undergraduate students

RECOMMENDED EXPERIENCE

  • Experience with organic chemistry techniques (i.e. TLC, extractions, dry reactions) and searching the literature for suitable reactions desire but not required

  • Experience with using GraphPad for statistical analysis  

  • Demonstrated scientific writing skills through a peer-reviewed publication(s)
